While you lot have all been kicking back drinking premium coffee, we’ve been working like… well like a couple of mongrels.
And we’re now pleased to announce that we’ve come to the end of our renovations to our ‘roastery door’, which means Downstairs at Mongrel Joe’s is ready to throw open its doors and welcome the good folk of Sydney in for a cuppa and a yarn. Initially we’re testing it out for the month of April, and if you all love it, we’ll keep the coffee coming.
Not really a cafe, not really a tasting room… we like to think of Downstairs as being Mongrel Joe’s ‘den’, a place Joe would have brought his mates to kick back, brew up some stiff coffee and have a good old chinwag.
And if all his mates were busy, Joe could easily enjoy the serenity (tuning out the planes roaring overhead) and read a book from his extensive library.
Downstairs at Mongrel’s is open 9am – 11am Monday to Friday throughout April, and on the arvos and weekends by appointment only. You’ll find us at 3/32 Lillian Fowler Place, Marrickville.
The furniture doesn’t all match and you won’t get seven types of sugarless muffin, but it’s a warm, casual and friendly place to drop in and sample what’s without doubt Sydney’s best coffee. And damn, does it smell good in there.
If you’re lucky – and we make no promises – the big black meat-smoker might be churning out smoked kolbas sausages (Joe’s favourite), which we like to have on a sourdough roll with a few pickles.
Got a group of mates that you think would love it here? You’re welcome to bring them along and we’ll cook up a feast – starting at $15pp for bottomless coffee, kolbas and a chat with the Head Mongrel’s. We’re thinking bucks days, work get-togethers, birthday brunches and bootcamp cool-down coffees, but whatever you’re celebrating, give us a shout via email – [email protected] – and we’ll work something out.
See you soon @ Downstairs.
